What makes something art? In this class, students will share and investigate their own experience of art with others and explore diverse forms of art making to broaden their understanding. The class will begin with a compelling discussion about what makes something art. From there, the class will investigate the different elements of art: line, shape, color, value, form, texture, and space. Each lesson will introduce a new element of art and compelling project for students to create based upon that element. Projects include line-drawings, graffiti art, optical illusion drawings, collage-projects, a design-your-own CD cover project, nature art projects, and more. Through the introduction and exploration of art vocabulary and techniques, as well as the experimentation with new art media, students will approach art methods, thinking, and creation in new and exciting ways.
